Kian Mohseni

HI, I'M KIAN

About Me

My background includes a Mechanical Engineering B.S. from UCLA and a Data Science M.S. from UC San Diego, where I developed a strong foundation in applying data-driven approaches to real-world physical systems. I specialize in leveraging ambiguous, messy data to inform structured decision-making and strategy. My career began working at Parker Aerospace, where I used predictive analytics and problem solving methodologies to drive efficiency, cost savings, and sustainability efforts in mission-critical environments. My favorite part of the job was communicating insights in a way that everyone could understand, regardless of their technical background.

Now, I'm eager to channel this expertise and make a difference in a data-focused role. Data isn’t just numbers to me, it’s the key to telling a compelling story that can make a real impact. From building robust recommendation tools to predicting hospital readmissions, I'm constantly learning new ways of using cutting-edge AI/ML models to solve complex, high-impact business challenges. I bring a deep understanding of product lifecycle management and a strong commitment to collaborating with customers to foster trusted relationships.

Outside of work, I'm a semi-professional soccer player and love staying active. I'm also passionate about building and learning from diverse communities through travel, food, and activities. I love balancing my analytical mindset with these personal passions, always eager to learn, explore, and challenge myself in new ways.

Excited to connect with forward-thinking teams who are using data and innovation to shape the future! πŸš€

Product Engineer - Design & Sustaining Team (Military Flight Controls Division) (June 2022 – September 2024)

  • Achieved executive buy-in after implementing an ESG predictive analytics tool for global waste reduction initiatives using VBA, resulting in $3.4M annual savings through PPE recycling optimization, while reducing CO2 emissions by 630 metric tons and energy consumption by 28M kWh across all US sites.
  • Led engineering support for F-35 Electrohydrostatic Actuator program ($150M annual gross revenue), owning design specifications, drawings, test procedures, and RFP’s while driving continuous improvement engineering changes.
  • Resolved critical Rudder Actuator leakage issue threatening $54M annual revenue by leading root cause of failure investigation in a cross-functional team, executing design of experiments, and presenting statistical analyses to key stakeholders; coordinated with suppliers and customers to implement solution and prevent production line stoppages.
  • Researched use of GenAI knowledge database to capture expertise from retiring workforce, leveraging custom LLM’s.

Southern California Gas Company β€” Los Angeles, CA

Pipeline Engineering Intern (June 2021 – August 2021)

  • Approved Design Data Sheets and determined pressure testing parameters for piping designs.
  • Performed external loading analysis on gas piping to determine minimum depth of cover requirements, in addition to coordinating with project managers and engineers from various departments.
  • Reviewed and developed company gas standards in accordance with company policies and industry design codes.
  • Completed CAESAR II pipe stress evaluations for piping designs and pipeline spans.

Surveying & Drafting Services, Inc. β€” Los Angeles, CA

CAD Drafter (June 2020 – September 2020)

  • Designed topographic survey drawings and corner records of residential and commercial properties using AutoCAD, in collaboration with professional drafters.
  • Performed calculations and analyzed onsite field notes that included property lines, house footprints, spot elevations, bearings, utilities, fences, trees, contours, and all other aspects of the properties.

UCLA Optofluidic Systems Lab β€” Los Angeles, CA

Researcher (March 2020 – September 2020)

  • Researched the optomechanics necessary to design and calibrate biosensor devices used in the lab.
  • Successfully modeled specialized camera lens fixtures and 3D drawings of publication quality using SolidWorks, which were used in an experiment to analyze the mappable relationship between the color diffracted by a grating and the tilt angle of that grating.

MentorSEAS @ UCLA β€” Los Angeles, CA

Engineering Mentor (September 2019 – June 2022)

  • Served as a mentor to a group of five freshman engineers and guided them through the life of an engineer at UCLA; provided them with both academic and mental support through planned events and gatherings.
